Why US hospitals are hiring Canadian ICU RN talent

Severe trauma center vacancies are causing high-risk patient ratios in US ICUs. Hospitals are actively looking outside the domestic pipeline to fill these seats, and Canadian ICU RNs bring closely aligned training and licensure.

Because ICU care is high-acuity and high-stakes, US hospitals move quickly once they find a candidate with the right background, which is why ICU is one of our fastest-matching specialties despite its rigor.

What the role looks like

Managing 1-2 critically ill patients per shift, often on ventilators or vasoactive drips
Continuous hemodynamic monitoring and rapid response to changes in patient status
Titrating medications under close physician and intensivist collaboration
Family communication during some of the most stressful moments of a patient's care

Credentialing & what US employers look for

CCRN certification (through AACN) is highly valued, though not always mandatory at every facility. ACLS is generally required, and hands-on experience with vasopressors and mechanical ventilation is expected.

Do I need CCRN certification to qualify?
